Bio and Training

After graduating in 2000 from University of South Australia, I initially worked in various physio roles at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital learning from more experienced physios, while also working at Edwardstown Football Club. In late 2003 I ventured to London for an extended working holiday, and was fortunate to work with St Kilda Football Club at their UK pre-season camp. I worked in hospital and private practice settings for 3 years.

Returning to Australia and wanting to consolidate my career, in 2007 I studied the Master of Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at UniSA, providing me the titles of APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist and APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. This course certainly enhanced my clinical decision making skills, broadening my knowledge and giving me the extra skills to get faster and more long lasting results. I then took roles at a few quality clinics with very reputable physios, to learn all I could from their experience. I worked with high level sport with West Adelaide football club until 2011 and Matrics Netball Club until 2009.

In 2010 came the opportunity to take on The Physio Studio at Goodwood. Over the next 10 years, we achieved a great deal – growing the clinic from 3 owners working part-time plus another physio, to a team of 10 allied health professionals and 4 reception staff, providing services to 9 community sports clubs, and upgrading to a more functional premise. Working mostly with amateur sport, I helped Goodwood Football Club for 9 years including premiership seasons in 2014, 2015 and 2020, and Prince Alfred Football Club for 8 years including their first Division 1 premiership in 2016. I helped roll out a club-wide injury prevention program at Forestville Eagles Basketball Club. I also worked with travelling national teams Queensland Fire (women’s cricket), Perth Lynx (WNBL) and Queensland State Junior basketball. 2020 and the covid-19 experience clarified for me that I wanted something different – a new challenge, a simpler approach to freshen up my energy and passion, and an environment where I could focus more on excellent care and outcomes for patients.

I thrive on new learning and staying up to date with the latest research and recommendations, to be able to provide the best, most effective treatment to my patients. I have attended courses to enhance knowledge on many aspects of physio:

  • Pilates (DMA)
  • Muscle Energy Treatment of Neck and Low back (MET Rx UK)
  • Functional strength training (KLT)
  • Management approaches for the Thorax (LJ Lee)
  • Lumbopelvic hip region (LJ Lee)
  • Shoulder (Lynn Watson)
  • Hip and Groin (Physiosports Brighton)
  • Kids in Sport (Physiosports Brighton)

I’m also happy to pass on those learnings, presenting workshops and lectures on topics like Physios Prepared for Private Practice, Physio Bike Fitting, Taping, and on SMASA Sports Trainer courses. I have also supervised students in Masters training programs.

I’m passionate about helping patients achieve their activity goals – through injury prevention, injury management and rehabilitation, plus training load planning, and sport specific strength and conditioning.
